I wrote over 1,000 words walking through how Wednesday night went. I suppose if people want to know the full story, I can share it at some point, but right now, this post is to remember my sweet Saraa. My little gray one. Sunshine’s blue kitty.
She lost the use of her back legs very suddenly Wednesday night. Such a sudden change pretty much always means bad things. The x-rays showed our deepest concern.
Miss Saraa was a very skinny thing, but her heart took up nearly her whole chest cavity. Fluid had built up in her lungs, and the DVM noted that she’d given a diuretic along with the pain killer, so this much fluid still in there was a bad sign.
Short version: my girl was drowning because the left side of her heart had given out. So there was nothing we could do. No further diagnostics would give us any additional information or possibility for recovery.
She is no longer in pain. She passed being held by her favorite person surrounded by the rest of her people. She is buried in our backyard next to our precious void kitty who passed last year at 18 years old.
Miss Saraa would have turned 15 years old at the beginning of August. We adopted her and her littermate Nargii when they were only a couple of months old.

She was an amazing little kitten, an amazing cat overall. She loved everyone. While her brother would hide from strangers (and anyone more generally who was loud), Saraa would aggressively demand pets.

I was not her person. She attached to my spouse. Tom isn’t much of a cat person, but he adored this little thing who loved him so much. We weren’t really sure how any of the cats would handle the introduction of a small child to our family, but Saraa mostly just avoided Sunshine until Sunshine was old enough to really know how to interact with cats. Saraa also really liked all the baby stuff.

Sunshine, however, loved Saraa more than any other cat in the house. Her blue kitty.

The above picture does show how Miss Saraa struggled with her allergies. She developed scar tissue from them on her face before we were finally able to get her allergies controlled. It never stopped her from being lovey.

This cat loved belly rubs more than anything else in existence I swear. Not even 24 hours after her spay, stitches still swollen, Saraa was begging for pets, grabbing our hands and putting them on her belly. It never changed. In 14 years, her love of belly rubs never waned, not even at the height of our struggles with her allergies where she’d pulled out the fur on her belly.
Miss Saraa, my baby girl, we miss you. Today, your brother started yowling for you after a few days processing. Nothing I write will bring you back, but I hope with this, we can keep you close in our hearts. You nursed me through my surgery recovery, and it breaks my heart I couldn’t do more for you.

We love you so much. Goodbye my sweet girl.
