I received this response on July 6, 2026. I knew from the start that it was a long shot that this particular magazine would accept it, but I can’t know without trying. So here we are. This magazine also responds super quickly, so it’s not like I lose much in trying.
That’s the lesson I’m really starting to internalize. Rather than agonizing over whether to submit or not, I just need to submit. I admit the sting is starting to dull, and that was really the whole point of this exercise, right?
Even though the chances of this magazine ever accepting a story is fairly small, it’s good practice for me to submit any story I think is a fit.
